Exception availability is a block of time when an instructor's availability varies from his or her normal availability.

For example, Ali Andersson is normally available on Mondays from 7-4. Ali has a personal appointment on an up-coming Monday from 10-11:30. You would not change her availability for Mondays; instead you add exception availability for that Monday for the hours she is available. In this case, from 7-10 and 11:30 to 4. Her schedule shows three columns of availability on that Monday. A blue column indicating her normal availability and two blocks of red indicating her exception availability. The space of time between the blocks of exception availability indicate the time she is not available that day. The following image represents this example.
